Original von Rosen Splint for treatment and prevention of dislocation of the hip joint. The Original von Rosen splint should preferably be applied already within the first three days after birth, and at the Orthopedic University-clinic, Malmö (Sweden) it has been used for this purpose since 1956 . The results have been excellent. Original von Rosen splint may be used also when the dislocation is not diagnosed until later. Applied in the right way The Original von Rosen splint has the following advantages: 1. The splint can easily be adjusted to the baby. 2. The femoral head is kept in the center of the joint cavity. 3. Small flexion and rotation movements in the hip joints are permitted as well as free kicking movements in the kneejoints. 4. Thanks to the rubber covering the baby can be cared for without being taken out of the splint. By careful hygiene the rubber covering does not hurt the babys skin. 5. Alternately the baby can be turned into the prone position. The Original von Rosen splint is available in 7 sizes; the medium size fits newborn babies of normal size.
